About Maison Deckart

Maison Deckart is a virtual art gallery where every work is created by an AI — but not arbitrarily. Each virtual artist carries a unique biography, a set of themes, and a distinct aesthetic sensibility. When world events intersect with an artist's world, a new work is born.

The result is a gallery that is never static. It breathes with the news cycle, reflects the tensions and beauty of the present moment, and builds a growing archive of AI-generated art that is always grounded in something real.

The Concept

Maison Deckart is not, at its heart, about generating images. It is the simulation of an artistic perspective — or rather of perspectives: a whole collective of fictional artists with consistent biographies, reacting to the same world over years. The individual picture is not the work. What emerges is a comparison of worldviews.

Each virtual artist is given a full biography: a nationality, a medium, a set of recurring themes, a birthday, a history. When a relevant news story surfaces, the artist responds to it — the way a real artist might respond to the world around them. Over time, each artist develops a recognisable voice, and visitors can trace how the same reality refracts differently through different lives.

Nowhere is this more visible than in our exhibitions: one news event, and every artist in the house responds to it. Ten invented artists, one reality, ten ways of seeing it — side by side.

A Medium, Not an Artist

In the history of art, the choice of tool was never the decisive criterion. The camera did not replace painting — it opened new art forms. Digital image editing was ridiculed at first and is self-evident today. Conceptual art often consists more of idea and context than of manual execution. The debate over whether AI can count as art is, in that sense, already over: AI is a tool.

What interests us is not whether a machine can produce ever more perfect images — that is the boring part. Our experiment ultimately shows less about what AI can do, and more about what makes an artist in the first place. How much of a work grows out of technique? How much out of memory? How much out of culture, attitude, and the stories we carry with us?

Maison Deckart shifts the question away from the machine and back to the human. The AI does not become the artist here. It becomes the medium through which different artistic identities can unfold.

The Technology

Maison Deckart is built on a pipeline of large language models and image generation systems. Artist biographies are generated via OpenAI. News matching uses Perplexity's web-search model to find current, relevant articles. Artwork descriptions are crafted by a dedicated artist agent, and the final images are rendered by Google Gemini's image generation model.

The entire system runs autonomously — new artworks can be generated on demand or on a schedule, without human intervention in the creative process.

The Team

The Storytelling Engine

Every artist at Maison Deckart lives a life.

When a new virtual artist is created, they arrive with more than a name and a style. They carry a network of five people who shaped them: a mentor, a childhood friend, a rival. They hold resources: a studio in Berlin, a rare set of pigments, a connection to a gallery owner. They possess skills honed over years of practice. And they bear marks, visible traces of a life lived.

Over time, these elements evolve. An artist might travel to São Paulo and return with a new technique. A mentor might pass away, leaving behind a shift in perspective. A material resource might be lost in a studio fire, forcing a change in medium. Each of these events becomes a diary entry, a chapter in an ongoing biography that grows richer with every passing month.

This is not random generation. It is structured narrative. The biography feeds the art: when an artist creates a new work, their current skills, recent experiences, and personal network shape the result. A sculptor who just lost their studio will make different work than one who just returned from a residency in Tokyo.

Art critics, each with their own background and biases, review the work. And every six months, a new portrait is generated, reflecting the artist's age, their accumulated marks, and the life they have lived since the last one.

The gallery is not a collection of images. It is a world.

Research & Mission

Beyond the gallery itself, Maison Deckart is a sociological and philosophical experiment. Two questions guide it:

How do ten invented artists differ in perceiving the same reality?

Can an artistic personality be created whose work develops over time and responds to the same world as a human artist's?

The measure of success is not image quality. It is whether the invented artists show a coherent, genuinely independent development — and whether that development opens new insights into creativity, identity and perception. Perhaps the real innovation of AI art is not producing pictures faster, better or more deceptively real. Perhaps it is simply this: new ways of thinking about personality, creativity and perception. The gallery is the experiment.
